D2.4 Report on monitoring system detection module for the detection of contaminants

Abstract

In WP2, INL is focused on developing an autonomous system for monitoring relevant target contaminants in runoff waters. This deliverable describes the performance of the various submodules of the detection system’s module (task 2.3). To the extent possible during the report delivery, we describe the limits of detection (LoD) and quantification (LoQ), dynamic range, reproducibility, replicability, and interferences. Detection principles for metals (Zn and Ni) and small microplastics were previously established in other INL projects, so they started in a more advanced stage, even though tailoring has been necessary to accommodate the requirements of this application and matrix (runoff waters) and are more deeply described. Detection principles for triazines and 6PPD-Quinone have started to be explored in this project (TRL1) and are, at this point, in a lower level of development. Hence, the usual performance characterization has not been completed yet. However, we describe the different approaches tested and the most promising ones to be integrated into the final detection system. Owing to the nature of this deliverable, i.e., the continuous optimizations of the detection modules as a function of the information acquired from measurements running not only in the lab, but also on-field in the study cases, it will be considered an open deliverable, which will be modified according to the potential new data generated during RP3.
