Measurement of Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) in the context of traditional and AI-adaptive funnels

Abstract

This article examines the methodological problem of assessing Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) within the context of conventional and AI-adaptive sales funnels. It is argued that in conditions of intensified market competition and oversaturation, traditional CLV measurement techniques – relying on statistical formulae, cohort analysis, and RFM segmentation – exhibit limited predictive validity and insufficiently capture the multidimensional determinants of customer behavior. Advances in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies expand the methodological frontier of CLV forecasting, allowing for the processing of high-frequency data streams, the detection of latent behavioral patterns, and the generation of individualized managerial recommendations. The article further problematizes the risks associated with the deployment of AI-driven approaches, including data quality limitations, the epistemological opacity of algorithmic “black boxes,” and computational resource intensiveness. In addition, it outlines the prospects of hybrid analytical models that synthesize traditional econometric frameworks with intelligent data-driven methodologies, thereby enhancing the robustness and managerial applicability of CLV estimation in dynamic market environments.
