Map: Abercrombie & Berg 1978 (as Dictyodes dictyodes) Note: Retellia claropunctata has been collected at 15 localities: two in Bolivia (both in Cochabamba), 11 in Brazil (one in Rio de Janeiro, four in Paraná, four in Santa Catarina, two in Rio Grande do Sul), and two in Argentina (one in Buenos Aires, one in Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires). Abercrombie & Berg (1978) reported R. claropunctata (as D. dictyodes) from Uruguay, overlooking Steyskal’s 1974 finding that the Uruguayan specimen was actually R. lacera Wiedemann (as D. platensis). Although there are no field data, R. claropunctata almost certainly occurs in suitable habitats in Uruguay; it has been recorded reliably from neighboring Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and Buenos Aires, Argentina. Adults of R. claropunctata and R. lacera were collected together in December in a marsh 28 km south of Buenos Aires in the province of Buenos Aires (JA, unpublished). Adults of R. claropunctata have been collected in every month except January. Larvae and puparia have been found in April. The last known collection is from 2011. Larvae did not feed on the operculate freshwater snails Pleurocera acuta or Bithynia tentaculata, although the latter was sometimes attacked and killed.
