The existential experiences lived by the young members of the illegal Zionist group Chug Chaluzi, which was formed in Nazi Berlin in the 1940s, represent a precious fragment in the historiography of pedagogy and education. In that fragment, the idea of human formation elaborated by the neo-humanistic tradition with the concept of Bildung is reflected. The events surrounding Chug Chaluzi and its leader Jizchack Schwersenz deserve to be grasped in their genuine authenticity to be radically questioned from both a historical perspective and a pedagogical and educational angle. The latter perspective takes on and makes its own the many interpretations and various contributions that are refracted in the concept of Bildung, as developed by authors of Jewish and Jewish-German culture.
