Recorded from Syria in original description by Heckel (1843a: 1064); subsequently reported by Beckman (1962: 138) as Phoxinellus zeregi, Goren (1972: 142); Saad et al. (2009).—Syrian material: BMNH, MCZ, MNHN, NMW, SMNHTAU, MSL. Distribution and habitat. Distribution in Syria: Orontes and Quwayq river systems.—Distribution in River Basin: 4-Orontes.—General distribution:Asia Minor and Middle East: Orontes and Quwayq river systems (Syria and Turkey).—Distribution in Ecoregion: 437-Orontes.—Habitat: This species is a riverine species.
