Residue Segmentation Tool: A Graphical User Interface for Crop Residue Image Data Annotation

Abstract

This tool provides an interactive GUI built with Python and Tkinter for segmenting crop residue in images. It combines traditional segmentation methods (Otsu, Canny, manual thresholding) with Meta AI's Segment Anything Model (SAM) for advanced segmentation. The app allows manual annotation with polygons and brushes and is tailored for generating training datasets for machine learning applications in agriculture. This release includes the executable build for Windows systems, a demonstration video of the tool, and the Python script for the tool.
