Abstract

In Krisenzeiten ist die Frage nach der Identität eine Frage des Überlebens. Die Europäische Kommission hat soeben einbestellte Expertisen evaluiert, die aus Sicht verschiedener Disziplinen und Regionen die europäische Identität behandeln. Das Echo war groß, insbesondere in den Politik- und Sozialwissenschaften. Die Finanzkrise und der schwache Euro haben für europapolitische Fragen sensibilisiert. Ein Scheitern der EU wird nicht mehr ausgeschlossen. Der vorliegende Band bietet zu diesem brandaktuellen Thema neue Texte und stark überarbeitete Beiträge, die vor Jahren in englischer Sprache unter dem Titel «A Soul for Europe» erschienen sind.
