Methylene Blue is an azo dye that is often found in textile industry waste. This substance is toxic and difficult to decompose naturally, so it can pollute the environment if not managed properly. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of gamma irradiation in degrading methylene blue with various initial concentrations (100 ppm; 150 ppm; 200 ppm; 300 ppm; 400 ppm; 500 ppm) and irradiation doses (5 kGy; 10 kGy; 15 kGy). The research results showed that at low concentrations (200 ppm), degradation was less than optimal even though the dose was increased to 15 kGy. In fact, there was an increase in the final concentration due to the formation of a derivative compound which was detected as methylene blue. So, for high concentrations a larger dose of irradiation is needed.
