Abstract

This systematic review describes the current state of the research on the quality of care in early childhood education and care (ECEC) establishments in France, mainly crèches. Its main objective is to examine the avenues of research aimed at improving childcare, in particular parents' access to childcare, taking account of children's development and preventing abuse. The methodology is based on a number of queries selecting 142 works published between 1977 and 2023, both national and international, but mainly in French. The areas of research that emerged from this review mainly involved proposals to improve/strengthen control standards and the level of training for professionals. An interesting line of research also focuses on increasing parental involvement and collaboration between parents and nursery teams, highlighting the concept of coeducation.
