Abstract

Proponíame escribir un trabajo extenso y circunstanciado que comprendiese en orden sistemático todos los Dípteros argentinos que me fueran conocidos, reseñar aquellos que no poseyera y también los que posiblemente deben habitar en nuestras comarcas ; no tardé en reconocer que tal empresa no me era accesible, por lo pronto, motivando tal imposibilidad, no la escasez, sino por el contrario la abundancia de material, unida á la exigüidad de mi biblioteca y al escaso caudal de observaciones propias y extrañas para dar una ojeada general sobre todo el orden, bajo sus distintos puntos de vista. El considerable número de especies recogidas por mí, pronto se vio aumentado por las colecciones del Museo de La Plata, las que me proporcionó su Director Dr. FR P. Moreno, las procedentes del Chaco, Misiones, Entre Rios, Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego, Salta, Isla de los Estados, Mendoza, San Luis y República Oriental, recogidas por mi amigo y colega el Dr. Eduardo L. Holmberg, y los Sres. Ambrosetti, Capitán Moyano, Dr. Carlos Berg, Dr. Carlos Spegazziní y varios aficionados á las Ciencias Naturales. He debido renunciar a mi proyecto primitivo y concretarme a dar á la estampa una serie de monografías, sin cernirme en su aparición al orden natural en que se clasifican los dípteros, que relacionadas y reunidas entre sí, puedan componer un todo homogéneo como me sea posible. Este trabajo está reducido exclusivamente al grupo de los Culicidae, tribu de la que poseo suficiente material.
