Abstract

In modern microservices-driven architectures, ensuring system reliability and user satisfaction demands a shift from traditional infrastructure monitoring to a Service Level Objective (SLO)-centric observability model. This paper explores how enterprises can leverage powerful platforms—Splunk, Dynatrace, and Google Stackdriver—to define, track, and enforce SLOs that align closely with real user experiences. It discusses the theoretical underpinnings of SLO-based monitoring, contrasts it with older paradigms like system uptime and generic thresholds, and outlines the integration challenges and architectural considerations of implementing observability at scale. Drawing from real-world case studies across finance, telecom, and e-commerce, the paper showcases successful applications of SLO frameworks in reducing alert fatigue, improving mean time to resolution, and enhancing cross-team accountability. It also presents a set of best practices and actionable recommendations for organizations at various stages of their observability journey.
