Veeteelt in ontwikkelingslanden

Abstract

Voor u ligt het verslag van de lezingenserie Veeteelt in ontwikkelingslanden die, georganiseerd door het Bureau Studium Generale in samenwerking met de Stichting Diergeneeskunde in Ontwikkelingssamenwerking (DIO), aan de Rijksuniversiteit te Utrecht werd gehouden in het voorjaar van 1991. Wanneer westerlingen de intentie hebben voor ontwikkelingslanden mogelijkheden te creëren vooruit te komen, is de ontwikkeling van het platteland een belangrijk aandachtsveld. Om in de levensbehoefte van de plaatselijke bevolking te voorzien is vee de leverancier van produkten als melk, vlees, eieren, wol, huiden en mest. Daarnaast wordt het vee gebruikt voor trekkracht, om o.a. het land te bewerken, en fungeert vee als een investering (d.w.z. een zekerheidsfunctie voor de toekomst).
