Teaching Preparedness of Kindergarten Teachers Using a Competency - Based Approach: An Assessment

Abstract

This study examines the teaching preparedness of kindergarten educators using a competency-based approach, emphasizing the importance of equipping teachers with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes to deliver high-quality early childhood education. Findings reveal that while most teachers demonstrate strong foundational competencies, there are notable gaps in instructional planning, assessment practices, and adaptation to diverse learner needs. The research highlights the critical role of continuous professional development and targeted training programs in enhancing teaching effectiveness. It recommends that the Department of Education, particularly in the Calanasan District, implement structured competency-based interventions, including formal training, mentorship, and resource support. These efforts aim to strengthen teacher readiness and improve the quality of learning experiences for young learners. The study concludes that teacher preparedness is best supported through sustained professional growth opportunities and strong institutional backing, rather than demographic factors alone. Enhancing readiness ensures more effective implementation of competency-based instruction in kindergarten classrooms.
