Ana Dili Türkçe Konuşuru Yetişkinlerin Almanca Öğrenme Süreçlerinde Karşılaştıkları Dil Bilgisel Sorunlar

Abstract

This article investigates the grammatical difficulties encountered by adult Turkish native speakers who migrated from Turkey to Germany and are learning German as a second language. Initially launched in the 1960s to address Germany’s labor shortage, the migration movement—originally intended as temporary-eventually became permanent. As a result, migrants were required to learn the language of their host country. However, findings indicate that Turkish-speaking adult migrants face greater challenges in acquiring German compared to other migrant groups with similar socioeconomic backgrounds. A qualitative research design was adopted for this study, and data were collected through a combination of closed-ended Likert scale questions and open-ended survey items. The results reveal that learners particularly struggle with grammatical structures such as the article system, verb conjugations, sentence construction, and syntax. Moreover, their language acquisition processes are influenced by individual and contextual factors such as age, prior educational background, daily exposure to the target language, and motivation levels. The study emphasizes the need to develop more effective, individualized, and culturally responsive teaching methods. It is expected that the proposed recommendations will contribute to both the language acquisition and social integration processes of adult migrants.
