Nuevos registros de Lagidium Viscacia (Rodentia, Chinchillidae) para la Región de La Araucanía, Chile

Abstract

Lagidium viscacia es un roedor de la familia chinchillidae. Posee un pelaje suave y delicado. De comportamiento gregario, activa principalmente durante el día. Su dieta se basa principalmente en plantas de consistencia dura y coriácea. La distribución histórica incluye los Andes de Chile, Argentina, Perú y Bolivia. Puntualmente en Chile se encuentra desde la región de Arica hasta Aysen, sin embargo, no existen antecedentes específicos de la ubicación de las poblaciones en el límite sur de su distribución en la región de La Araucanía. En el marco de un plan de desarrollo de investigación científica en la Reserva Huellas, se desarrolló una prospección durante el mes de agosto del año 2024. Los autores realizaron un recorrido pedestre en afloramientos rocosos cercanos al límite altitudinal de la vegetación arbórea, ejecutando una búsqueda activa de defecaderos, potenciales refugios para la especie y encuentros directos. Como resultado se obtuvieron dos registros de L. viscacia. Se trata de ejemplares observados de manera directa, ambos registros se encuentran cercano a formaciones con cuevas de pequeño y mediano tamaño. No existen reportes científicos para la distribución de esta especie en tales latitudes, por lo cual, estos registros ampliarían su área de distribución en La Araucanía.
