Joodse Cultuur

Abstract

Onze maatschappij vertoont steeds meer trekken van een multiculturele samenleving. De neiging naar internationalisering en pluriformiteit is duidelijk voelbaar. Etnische, culturele en religieuze minderheidsgroepen worden daarmee geconfronteerd met de vraag hoe de eigen identiteit in deze diversiteit vorm te geven. Vooral in het West-Europa van de laatste decennia heeft deze vraagstelling veel aan belangstelling gewonnen. Voor de joodse gemeenschap duurt de interactie met omringende culturen al zo'n 2500 jaar. Niet alleen in de diaspora - het verstrooid tussen andersdenkenden wonen - maar ook in Israël zelf werden en worden joden gedwongen hun positie te bepalen tegenover de omringende culturen. Over de aard van deze confrontatie wordt door onderzoekers sinds de negentiende eeuw druk gediscussieerd. De wisselwerking tussen joodse en niet-joodse cultuur komt op velerlei gebieden tot uitdrukking: kunst, wetenschap, taal en literatuur, muziek.
