Abstract

El presente ensayo tiene como objetivo explicar cómo la segunda ley de la termodinámica anticipa los límites del crecimiento económico y el riesgo de un colapso ecológico global en un planeta con recursos finitos. Utilizando un enfoque interdisciplinario que articula física, economía ecológica y ciencias ambientales, se analiza la Tierra como un sistema cerrado en materia y abierto en energía. El método consistió en una revisión crítica de literatura especializada y de autores como Soddy, Daly, Meadows, Hickel, Hornborg y Latouche, cuyas contribuciones evidencian cómo el modelo económico actual ignora los límites biofísicos del planeta. La muestra conceptual se centró en las leyes de la termodinámica, con énfasis en la segunda ley, que establece que todo proceso energético genera entropía, es decir, pérdida de energía útil y aumento del desorden. Se identificaron además evidencias del agotamiento de recursos naturales, impactos ambientales irreversibles y políticas económicas desconectadas del contexto físico. La hipótesis plantea que ignorar los principios termodinámicos conduce a estrategias insostenibles que aceleran el colapso ambiental. En conclusión, el ensayo sostiene que integrar la segunda ley de la termodinámica en el diseño de políticas económicas y sociales es esencial para replantear el concepto de crecimiento y prevenir el colapso ecológico global. Superar la ilusión del crecimiento perpetuo requiere reconocer la irreversibilidad de los procesos energéticos y avanzar hacia modelos sostenibles que respeten los límites naturales del planeta.
