Makna Warna

Authors: Karja, I Wayan;
Abstract

Color is light and energy, and it becomes visible because it is reflected through all kinds of particles, molecules, and objects. Various wavelengths can be categorized as light. Each color has its own frequency and vibration, which many people believe contribute to specific qualities that influence the flow of energy within the human body. The body’s cells respond to light, affecting physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual stability. The primary color circle (red, yellow, and blue), secondary colors (orange, green, and purple), and their mixtures form tertiary colors. Colors are widely used as signs, symbols, icons, and visual communication media. In Bali, color holds deep meaning, representing forms and symbols in daily life based on Hindu philosophy. This article focuses on the meaning of color, especially the meaning of colors in the Balinese mandala, which carries religious-magical symbolism in the dynamics of art and culture. In the Balinese mandala circle, each cardinal direction is represented by a certain color, deity, weapon, day, number, and the color of internal organs. As a qualitative study, the research methods used include observation, interviews, and documentation. The process revealed several layers of color meaning, including referential, psychological, and social meanings; personification of pangurip-urip/pasupati as protection; artistic and cultural identity; reflections of character and personality; and a bridge between the seen and unseen, the tangible and intangible. Color has therapeutic meaning as a medium that can spark emotion and awaken universal awareness. Contemplating the light of color can heighten sensitivity to cosmic consciousness, dissolve darkness, and bring forth the divine light. The sublimation and culminating point of sacred color radiance reflect the union of Atman and Brahman. Based on this study, the future outlook suggests that light and color are important to continue exploring due to their therapeutic nature.
