Open Science Framework (OSF)

Open Science Framework (OSF)

Abstract

The Open Science Framework (OSF), is a repository and research workflow platform which enables rigorous, reproducible science by providing collaboration, registration, and data management support across the entire research lifecycle. OSF is the only free and open solution that allows researchers to manage their projects from onset and design, to preregistration, through study execution, and, ultimately, to posting research outcomes and archiving all associated research outputs (data, materials, and code). OSF supports research across disciplines and generates value by ensuring that the process, content, and outcomes of research are accessible for discovery and reuse. OSF supports Institutional Memberships that enable researcher single sign-on with their institutional credentials, ensuring that only authenticated representatives are associated with the institution. Once they have done so, much of their activity on the OSF is publicly affiliated with their institution. In 2025 OSF is releasing a new metrics dashboard for institutions to monitor their users activity and create customized reports. A new permission level of "curator" is also being developed that will allow institutions to collaborate with researchers to ensure good data management practices. In addition, a new method for community-developed integrations with other software tools will be released, increasing the interoperability of the platform.
