Schutz national wertvoller Kulturgüter durch Einsatz gesättigter Salzlösungen in Vitrinen zur Absorption anthropogener Luftschadstoffe

Abstract

Anthropogenic air pollutants continue to cause corrosion of valuable cultural artefacts in display cases. Silica gel, which is often used to regulate humidity (RH), is not very suitable for absorbing them. Saturated salt solutions can be used as an alternative passive air conditioning system instead of silica gel, which requires regeneration, or power-consuming, high-maintenance and failure-prone air conditioning units. Their use has largely been forgotten (last technical article on this subject in 1991) and is now only practised in Germany in the Veste Coburg and a few other collections. Argumentative problems such as the risk of spillages and the creeping of salts over container walls are easily manageable in practice. In light of today's generally recognised need for energy saving and sustainability, the project should lead to a revival of practical use Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
