Abstract

This deliverable is a comprehensive guide on Public Engagement for Researchers, aimed at helping academics effectively connect with the wider public. It introduces the concept of public engagement, its significance in the research landscape, and the values that underpin successful engagement efforts. The guide outlines the various motivations for engaging with the public, such as enhancing communication, broadening the impact of research, and fostering collaboration beyond academia. It also provides insights into identifying and involving relevant stakeholders, along with practical tips for designing and delivering engaging activities. Special attention is given to working with schools, offering strategies to inspire and involve students in meaningful ways. The deliverable includes guidance on how to evaluate public engagement efforts, understand common challenges, and access available support. It concludes with key takeaways to support researchers in making engagement a strategic and rewarding part of their work.
