Uso de metilfenidato por estudiantes de medicina

Abstract

El metilfenidato es un estimulante del sistema nervioso central indicado para tratar la narcolepsia y el trastorno por déficit de atención e hiperactividad (TDAH). Este estudio tuvo como objetivo analizar el uso de metilfenidato entre estudiantes del 1.º al 3.º curso de Medicina en la Universidad del Norte, sede Pedro Juan Caballero, durante 2021. Se empleó un enfoque cuantitativo, descriptivo y de corte transversal. Se administró una encuesta estructurada a 112 estudiantes. Los resultados indicaron una prevalencia general del uso de metilfenidato del 10 %. La prevalencia aumentó con el curso académico (un 6 % en 1.º, un 8 % en 2.º, un 17 % en 3.º). Fue ligeramente mayor en hombres (11 %) que en mujeres (9 %) y más alta en estudiantes brasileños (14 %) que en paraguayos (4 %). Los principales factores motivadores reportados fueron potenciar la rutina de estudios (36,4 %), disminuir el cansancio para acumular más información (36,4 %), y mejorar la concentración (27,2 %). El uso fue más frecuente durante el periodo de pruebas (54,5 %), seguido por un uso ocasional (45,5 %). Se concluye que el empleo no médico de metilfenidato es una realidad en esta población, con patrones específicos relacionados con el curso, nacionalidad y motivaciones académicas.
