
Abstract The women in all over the world played diverse roles in determining the destiny of the society in diverse eras. The place and space of women in Medieval Kerala was not optimistic because, the society was scattered into numerous castes and sub- castes. Commonly, the position of women varied according to the status of each caste and sub-caste. Meanwhile the past, women enjoyed high status in all realm of life but later period it was wholly changed. The Brahmanical revival changed the whole norms and conditions of the society. Gradually, the social condition of women is deteriorates. During the medieval period, there are number of social taboos was emerged and marriage did not give any sanctity to women except Brahmins. Concisely, the Medieval Kerala society was the dark age of women.
