In the Integral General Doctor's practice (MGI) of the north area of the Blind municipality of Ávila limitations are verified in their preparation for the prevention of visual affection (DV) in adults. The objective of this article is to propose the definition and operations of the content for the preparation of the MGI in the prevention of this affection from the primary attention of health (APS). The investigation has a mixed focus, methods like the systemic one are used, the model, surveys, interviews and observation to the medical practice, allowing to define tendencies and to systematize the contents for the professional preparation of the MGI. It is obtained the definition of the content of the preparation of these specialists and the delimitation of the system of knowledge, abilities and corresponding values as a result. The level of a population's of 23 specialists preparation was determined in MGI of this area, being verified limitations in the domain of the content to prevent DV in adults.

En la práctica del Médico General Integral (MGI) del área norte del municipio Ciego de Ávila se constatan limitaciones en su preparación para la prevención de discapacidad visual (DV) en adultos. El objetivo de este artículo es proponer la definición y operacionalización del contenido para la preparación del MGI en la prevención de esta discapacidad desde la atención primaria de salud (APS). La investigación tiene un enfoque mixto, se utilizan métodos como el sistémico, modelación, encuestas, entrevistas y observación a la práctica médica, permitiendo delimitar tendencias y sistematizar los contenidos para la preparación profesional del MGI. Se obtiene como resultado la definición del contenido de la preparación de estos especialistas y la delimitación del sistema de conocimientos, habilidades y valores correspondientes. Se determinó el nivel de preparación de una población de 23 especialistas en MGI de dicha área, constatándose limitaciones en el dominio del contenido para prevenir DV en adultos.
