Abstract

The article deals with the problems of the lexicographic description of plant names(phytonyms). The plant names in Modern Russian represent a poorly researched unstable groupof lexicon. The significant changes that have occurred in this group in recent decades are notadequately described in explanatory dictionaries. The difficulties faced by a native speaker areillustrated by examples from translated fiction.Key words: lexicology, lexicography, explanatory dictionary, phytonym, translation.
