AI-Augmented Education: A Meta-Framework for AI-Integrated Learning and Development

Abstract

AugmentED™ Meta-Framework for AI-Powered Education Harnessing AI to design, enhance, and transform the way educational content is created, delivered, and experienced. This paper introduces AugmentED™, a modular, ethically governed framework for integrating artificial intelligence into education, training, and learning design. AugmentED™ is a modular, ethically governed framework for embedding AI into education at every level. It empowers educators to build new learning experiences or “AI-ify” existing content through structured instructional logic. It enhances delivery systems through guided adaptivity and supports learners with a personalized AI companion that fosters reflection, progression, and agency. Designed for transformation without disruption, AugmentED™ positions AI not as a replacement for educators or curricula—but as an integrated, governed partner in the future of learning. AugmentED™ includes four core components: Synthegogy™: a human–AI instructional philosophy balancing guidance and agency ALMA™: an AI-driven assistant designed to provoke thinking, not deliver answers ALMA Activities™: categorized prompts aligned to Bloom’s Taxonomy and Socratic reasoning FrameFlux™: the adaptive governance system that guides system evolution and coherence This publication includes a complete overview of the model, design principles, visual architecture, and real-world implementation use cases. It is released under a CC BY-NC 4.0 license, making the framework publicly available for academic, institutional, and non-commercial adaptation.
