The StandICT.eu Standards Training Academy, in collaboration with INSTAR, hosted a webinar on the Republic of Korea's standardisation strategies in ICT on 15 April 2025 from 9:00 to 10:30 CEST (16:00 – 17:30 Korea Standard Time). For decades, the Republic of Korea has been a well-established and strong player in international standardisation, particularly in ICT. This is clearly reflected in the patent applications of its major multinationals and their declared standard-essential patents. The webinar provided an update on the Republic of Korea's ICT standardisation strategy and activities, offering a comprehensive overview of its approach to standardisation in the sector. The first part of the discussion explored the opportunities and challenges faced by Korea and its key actors in international standardisation, also considering the impact of current geopolitical tensions. The second part focused on the implications for the EU, identifying areas for enhanced collaboration, potential joint efforts for mutual benefit, and strategies to address global challenges.
