RESONATE adopted a comprehensive research approach to investigate how to enhance forest resilience in forests across Europe and their associated forest value chains. A focus of WP 5 was the synthesis of results derived from previous work packages and the development of guidance and recommendations for policy and practice. The deliverable builds on the scientific evidence developed in the RESONATE project as summarised in the scientific synthesis report (RESONATE Deliverable D5.5). Most recommendations (Chapter 2) were first compiled as part of three policy briefs targeting i) Managing Forest Disturbances in a Changing Climate; ii) The Role of Biodiversity in Making Forests Resilient; iii) Enhancing climate resilience of forest value chains (RESONATE Deliverable D6.7). The recommendations were discussed with stakeholders in a policy workshop in Brussels (10th February 2025), who ranked the importance of the RESONATE recommendations, suggested some additional recommendations and discussed potential trade-offs related to contrasting recommendations and identified further research needs. In this synthesising report we present overall RESONATE recommendations for policy makers, practitioners and research. We discuss stakeholder feedback received on these recommendations and place the recommendations in the wider context of managing trade-offs and synergies on enhancing resilience in social-ecological forest systems.
