These evolutions are affecting almost every aspect of our daily lives and that also includes the military domain. The ongoing trend of ‘dehumanization’ of warfare, intended as a shift in the degree of involvement of real people in the decision-making process leading to the adoption of critical decisions such as life and death, poses vital questions from a legal as well as an ethical perspective. The aim of this paper is therefore that of highlighting the main challenges posed by the potential deployment of Lethal Autonomous Weapon Systems while attempting to further draw the attention of the public opinion on the topic and possibly suggest solutions to the actual deadlock.
