Opportunities and Challenges for Women Entrepreneurs in Emerging Markets in Nigeria

Abstract

This study aims to establish how the challenges and opportunities that women entrepreneurs experience in emerging markets such as Nigeria affect their success. The first issue is due to factors such as restricted funding, high-risk legislation, and poor training and development opportunities. These challenges are further compounded by cultural and gender roles, which make it hard for women to succeed in business. It is against this backdrop that the following research questions have been developed: The research questions are as follows: The challenges and opportunities highlighted above should be examined about their impact on entrepreneurial success, and recommendations made to foster an enabling environment for women entrepreneurs. The study is a conceptual study and data collection is done through a review of literature using journal articles, books, policy reports, and case studies. The study finds that though financial resources and supportive training programs increase women’s entrepreneurial performance, regulatory and cultural constraints persist. Some of the recommendations are as follows: The need to encourage gender-sensitive financial and regulatory changes, access to mentorship and training, and community support. The study also finds that solving these challenges is a task that needs the cooperation of the government, the banking sector, and the public. Some of the limitations include the fact that the study is conceptual and therefore requires empirical support in future research.
