Abstract

The tourism sector has been established as a force that contributes significantly to national economic growth. The State of Veracruz is recognized as an important point of tourist attraction in the country. The purpose of this study is to measure the impact of tourism on the economic growth of the metropolitan regions of the State of Veracruz, by using the methodology proposed by Ivanov and Webster 2007, using as a proxy variable of municipal GDP the variable Total Gross Production (TGP) of the Economic Censuses. The results obtained indicate that tourism contributes to economic growth and development in all the Metropolitan Zones of the state, although their contribution varies between them, which may be explained by the features and characteristics of the zone (or its municipalities) and the weight of tourism in the economic activity of the municipalities within the metropolitan zones of the state of Veracruz.
