As gene drive technologies advance, ensuring their safe and controlled use is a global priority. This article examines genetic biocontainment strategies designed to prevent unintended spread and mitigate ecological risks. I categorize existing approaches into four key strategies: population-based systems, self-limiting drives, multi-locus architectures, and external countermeasures. By reviewing recent research and case studies, I mention the effectiveness, limitations, and applicability of each method in different contexts. This article is a living literature review and will be updated as new containment technologies and regulatory developments emerge.
