Abstract

The Block Chair Blueprint: From Flatmates to Flourishing Center for Wellbeing and Flourishing | University of Cape Town | 2025 You didn’t sign up for a title. You said yes to shaping something real. This blueprint was made for that yes. It’s a living guide for Block Chairs at Forest Hill—one of UCT’s largest and most layered residence communities, home to over 800 students navigating life, study, and shared space across six high-rise blocks. And within that complexity, you lead. Grounded in UCT’s Handbook 3 and the Forest Hill Constitution, and enriched by the science of wellbeing—PERMA, NARMA, VIA character strengths, TURN, and Positive Leadership—this blueprint helps you lead with intention, clarity, and care. You’ll discover how to notice what’s really happening in your block, support quiet growth, and build small moments of connection that make others feel seen, safe, and part of something. Because leadership here isn’t about being in charge. It’s about showing up when it counts—and creating a space where people can truly feel at home.
