Monthly ocean bottom pressure anomalies from CMIP6 climate models

Abstract

Data supplement for manuscript "ENSO modulates the oceanic excitation of polar motion" by Lara Börger, Konstantin M. Lentge, Michael Schindelegger, and Henrik Dobslaw, submitted to Geophysical Research Letters (March 2025). Contents: Monthly ocean bottom pressure anomalies (OBP), Oceanic Niño Index (ONI) series, and ENSO-related lagged regression fields over 1850-2014 obtained from four historical experiments of CMIP6: CMCC-ESM2 (Centro Euro-Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici - Earth System Model version 2), EC-Earth3, MIROC6 (Model for Interdisciplinary Research on Climate version 6), and MRI-ESM2 (Meteorological Research Institute - Earth System Model version 2). OBP specifications: Monthly files for each model and time period (e.g., OBP_CMCC_185001_201412.nc) Spatial mean in each month and temporal mean at each point are reduced Units: mm of equivalent water height Data given with nominal grid spacing of 1° Static atmospheric contribution to bottom pressure: excluded ENSO-related fields specifications: Monthly files for each model and time period (e.g., ENSO_LaggedRegression_CMCC_47months.nc) Considered Lags: -10 to 36 months around the El Niño peak Spatial mean in each month and temporal mean at each point are reduced Units: hPa/°C Data given with nominal grid spacing of 1° ONI specifications: Monthly files for each model and time period (e.g., ONI_CMCC_185001_201412.nc) Units: °C Contact: L.
