this paper represents a methodological analysis regarding the possibilities of achieving sustainability by higher education institutions. In the context of multiple competitive pressures, as well as in order to increase competitiveness, universities must reorient their activities in order to achieve sustainability. The purpose of the research is to identify the possibilities of achieving sustainability by higher education institutions. In this context, examples of success in achieving sustainability of higher education institutions abroad were analyzed. The research methodology focused on the use of the following research methods: analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, content analysis. As a result, we must note, the fact that higher education institutions must learn from the great university centers in Europe regarding strategies to achieve sustainability that focus on reorienting the management of higher education institutions towards sustainable development objectives, which re-presents a new premise of the development of society.
