Love Data, Tackle Bias: Verzerrungen in (Kultur-)Datensätzen

Abstract

Kulturdatensätze entstehen meist auf Basis von Sammlungen oder Beständen von Museen, Archiven und Bibliotheken. In ihrer Zusammensetzung sind die Datensätze nicht neutral, sondern spiegeln die Werte des gesellschaftlichen Kontexts wider, in dem sie entstanden sind, und der Personen, die sie erstellt haben. Daher können Kulturdatensätze Verzerrungen, sog. Bias, enthalten: Wer wird in den Datensätzen abgebildet – und welche Gruppen werden nicht oder zu wenig repräsentiert? Diese Coffee Lecture im Rahmen der Love Data Week 2025 zeigt anhand von Beispielen auf, wie Bias in (Kultur-)datensätzen aussehen kann und was wir tun können, um unterrepräsentierte Gruppen sichtbarer zu machen.
