MPA Europe Deliverable 5.3 Prioritisation analysis based on biodiversity variables

Abstract

Disclaimer: This is document is part of a deliverable not yet approved by the European Commission. This report presents results of preliminary prioritisation analysis based on species ranges on the MPA Europe project study area. It uses the species range maps (species distribution models, SDM) developed under the project WP3 (Species and Biogenic habitat Distribution (Principe et al., 2023; OBIS 2024). Through this prioritisation process, optimal MPA networks covering 10% and 30% of European seas will be identified for biodiversity, blue carbon, and their combined benefits.
