Abstract

Abstract. The redefinition of seven closely related genera within the Phycitinae subfamily, present in tropical Africa, is proposed. It is grounded on the review of type materials. Four new taxonomic combinations have been created, one new genus (Suailia G. Leraut, 2024) and two new species (Sudania patricei G. Leraut, 2024 and Suailia audeoudi G. Leraut, 2024) are described. The lectotype of three species is established and one new synonymy is established. In continuation of previous work by the author (G. LERAUT, 2021 a; 2021 b; 2022), this article proposes the first revision, on the basis of internal anatomical elements, of the definition of the type species of seven genera of Phycitinae Anerastiini present for the most in tropical Africa: Saluria Ragonot, 1887, Talamba Ragonot, 1888, Emmalocera Ragonot, 1888, Socora Ragonot, 1888, Papua Ragonot, 1890, Sudania Hampson, 1901 and Hosidia Hampson, 1901. This revision makes it possible to confirm or refute the position of older authors, some of whom did not base their diagnosis on the examination of the internal anatomy. The characteristics of the genera are recalled and augmented with elements relating to internal anatomy and, where applicable, biology. Thus, at the generic level, a new synonymy was established: Peoria Ragonot, 1887 (= Hosidia Hampson, 1901), comb. nov., and the description of a new genre: Suailia G. Leraut, gen. nov., and at the specific level, to the establishment of four new combinations: Dembea tripartitella (Hampson, 1901), comb. nov., Peoria ochrineurella (Hampson, 1901), comb. nov., Sudania nimbelloides (Joannis, 1927), comb. nov. and Peoria furvella (Ragonot, 1888), comb. nov. ; and the description of two new species: Sudania patricei G. Leraut, sp. nov. and Suailia audeoudi G. Leraut, sp. nov. The long-established synonymy of Papua Ragonot, 1890 with Emmalocera Ragonot, 1888 is confirmed, while the validity of the genus Talamba Ragonot, 1888 is reestablished. One synonymy is stated: Emmalocera anerastica (Snellen, 1880) (= Papua latilimbella Ragonot, 1890). Lectotypes are also set for 3 species: Saluria maculivittella Ragonot, 1887, Talamba tenuinervella Ragonot, 1888 and Sudania subcostella Hampson, 1901. It should be noted that the scope of this revision goes far beyond the sole Afro-tropical region, certain genera of Phycitinae and in particular of Anerastiini (especially Peoria) having a very wide distribution. Species may be of interest for agronomy.
