This work aims to understand what music means to adult individuals who, on their own initiative and will, seek music lessons at the Educational Space. The reflection in the text is built from an interpretative analysis based on works primarily by Pierre Bourdieu (2007), Penna and Sobreira (2020), and Lucy Green (2012). In the collected narratives, we identified common points regarding musical memories, strengthening of identity, and relationships with family or the community to which they belong. Furthermore, we found that music can serve as emotional support and provide an affective connection. This research also shed light on the profile of the Educational Space as a non-formal music teaching environment that is inclusive, catering to people from diverse social backgrounds and facilitating social exchanges in group lessons. This aligns perfectly with what Music Education proposes when it shifts from valuing music for its own sake to centering its work around people in their diversity and their music.
