Webpage Views as a Proxy for Angler Pressure and Effort: Insights from Bayesian Networks

Abstract

This dataset includes the data required to analyze relationships between creel-based and mobile application-based angler behaviour variables in the study:"Webpage Views as a Proxy for Angler Pressure and Effort: Insights from Bayesian Networks". We used data from two river systems, including the lower section of the Bow River and the upper section of the Oldman River and its major tributaries in southwestern Alberta, from June to October 2018. The data sources included: (i) the mobile app MyCatch, Angler’s Atlas website, (ii) a weather simulation model BioSIM (R´egni`ere, J., Saint-Amant, R., B´echard, A., and Moutaoufik, A. (2017). Biosim 11–manuel d’utilisation. Quebec, QC, Canada: Natural Resources Canada, Canadian Forest Services, Laurentian Forestry Center) and, (iii) two creel surveys, (iv) an aerial survey. Creel survey data for the Bow River came from “Fish and Wildlife Management Information System (FWMIS)”, as per the FWMIS Data Sharing Agreement. Creel survey data for the Oldman River came from “Hurkett, B., and K. Fitzsimmons. 2019. Angler survey in the Upper Oldman River watershed, 2018. Data Report, produced by the Alberta Conservation Association, Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada. 17 pp + App”.
