Data for the paper: Multiple Stellar Populations in MOCCA Models – Transient Spatial Over-Concentration of Pristine RGB Stars

Abstract

This dataset contains MOCCA simulation data for a globular cluster model used in the publication:"Multiple stellar populations in MOCCA globular cluster models: Transient spatial over-concentration of pristine red giant stars driven by strong dynamical encounters." Preprint for the paper is available at: https://arxiv.org/abs/2502.17162 The simulation was performed using the MOCCA code version described in Giersz et al. (2024):https://arxiv.org/abs/2411.06421 Included Files This dataset contains three files from the MOCCA simulation: mocca.ini – The input configuration file used for the MOCCA simulation. system.dat – A file containing detailed record of the cluster evolution, storing over 500 parameters related to: Global cluster properties Stellar and binary system properties Technical parameters Dynamical interactionsThe first 2450 lines in this file contain header descriptions for all columns. Please Note: Changes in the etot column during the first 100 Myr are due to the gradual accretion of mass onto gas particles in the initial model. This process leads to a time-dependent variation in total energy, which should be considered when analyzing energy evolution. snap13.dat – The non-projected 13 Gyr snapshot of the simulation, containing 35 columns (described below). Column Descriptions for snap13.dat (13 Gyr Snapshot) im – Star/binary name (inames/inameb) r – Position in the cluster (pc) vr – Radial velocity (km/s) vt – Tangential velocity (km/s) u – Potential energy [MC units] ikb – Binary type (0 = single, 1 = binary, 2 = semi-detached binary) a – Semi-major axis of a binary (solar radii, R☉), 0.0 for single stars e – Eccentricity of the binary, 0.0 for single stars ik1 – SSE/BSE stellar type of the first component (see table below) ik2 – SSE/BSE stellar type of the second component sm1 – Mass of the first component (solar mass, M☉) sm2 – Mass of the second component (solar mass, M☉), 0.0 for single stars popId1 – Population ID of the first component (1 = pristine, 2 = enriched, >=100 for mixed pop) popId2 – Population ID of the second component timenr – Timestep (integer) idd1 – Star/binary ID for the first component idd2 – Star/binary ID for the second component lum1 – Luminosity of the first component (bolometric solar luminosity, L☉) lum2 – Luminosity of the second component (bolometric solar luminosity, L☉) rad1 – Radius of the first component (solar radii, R☉) rad2 – Radius of the second component (solar radii, R☉) hist1 – Compact history of the first star (dynamical events, mergers, etc.) hist2 – Compact history of the second star spin1 – Spin of the first component (SSE/BSE) spin2 – Spin of the second component (SSE/BSE) mu1 – U-band magnitude for the first component mu2 – U-band magnitude for the second component mv1 – V-band magnitude for the first component mv2 – V-band magnitude for the second component mb1 – B-band magnitude for the first component mb2 – B-band magnitude for the second component mi1 – I-band magnitude for the first component mi2 – I-band magnitude for the second component mtr1 – Mass transfer rate of the first component (solar mass per year, M☉/yr) mtr2 – Mass transfer rate of the second component (solar mass per year, M☉/yr) The compact history columns (hist1, hist2) above encode the short history of the events with the star 0000000000000000001 - had dynamical collision (inter-coll) 0000000000000000010 - had binary merger (stellar evolution) 0000000000000000100 - had mass transfer event in binary evolution (increased the mass) 0000000000000001000 - had interaction (bin-bin, or bin-sin) 0000000000000010000 - had exchange in interaction 0000000000000100000 - went to a binary (inter-binform) 0000000000001000000 - went to single (dissolution in stellar evolution) 0000000000010000000 - went to single (dissolution in interaction) 0000000000100000000 - separation changed by 1% (in interaction) 0000000001000000000 - separation changed by 10% (in interaction) 0000000010000000000 - eccentricity changed by 1% (in interaction) 0000000100000000000 - eccentricity changed by 10% (in interaction) 0000001000000000000 - dissolution in bin-sin interaction 0000010000000000000 - dissolution in bin-bin interaction 0000100000000000000 - dissolution in binary evolution 0001000000000000000 - exchange in bin-sin interaction 0010000000000000000 - exchange in bin-bin interaction 0100000000000000000 - dynamical collision in bin-sin 1000000000000000000 - dynamical collision in bin-bin (or hierarchical)E.g. if the star had two dynamical collisions and 5 mass transfer events in binary evolution then it has hist column value of: 0000000052 The values in ik1 and ik2 correspond to SSE/BSE stellar types from Hurley et al. (2000; 2002): 0 - Fully convective low-mass MS star (M 0.7 M☉)2 - Hertzsprung Gap (subgiant star)3 - First Giant Branch4 - Core Helium Burning5 - First Asymptotic Giant Branch6 - Second Asymptotic Giant Branch7 - Main Sequence Naked Helium star8 - Hertzsprung Gap Naked Helium star9 - Giant Branch Naked Helium star10 - Helium White Dwarf11 - Carbon/Oxygen White Dwarf12 - Oxygen/Neon White Dwarf13 - Neutron Star14 - Black Hole If you have any questions about the data or require more extensive data then please feel free to contact us.
