Aumento da eficiência de células solares usando materiais vítreos luminescentes como cobertura

Abstract

Novos materiais vítreos têm contribuído significativamente para o desenvolvimento de instrumentos e dispositivos fundamentais para o avanço de diversas áreas da ciência e da engenharia. As descobertas da nanotecnologia também têm desempenhado papel importante em relação às fontes de energia renováveis. Uma abordagem promissora consiste no uso de materiais luminescentes nos quais fótons de alta energia são convertidos em fótons de menor energia (processo de conversão descendente de luz). Esse mecanismo pode resultar no aumento da eficiência das células solares quando materiais, como o vidro dopado com íons de terras-raras (TRs), são empregados como cobertura sobre o dispositivo fotovoltaico.
