Including the stoichiometry of C, macronutrients, and toxic elements in the LTER/CZO agendas

Including the stoichiometry of C, macronutrients, and toxic elements in the LTER/CZO agendas

Abstract

The presentation will start by the research context, namely, the Fulbright program and the Romanian School of Systems Ecology. It will then move to a description of a Fulbright project aimed to catalyze the development of a critical zone observatory in Romania with a stoichiometric approach in the research agenda. A novel aspect of this work is to add toxic elements to stoichiometric analysis, which has traditionally focused on nutrients. This addition should facilitate analysis of ecosystems affected to anthropogenic activities and help to develop management and mitigation approaches for these ecosystems. More details about the presentation are in the extended abstract available here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1r94byBp30lD55YqmJqhMM6MCA-QfQiZq/view?usp=sharing This research was funded by Fulbright-Romania Grant 867/2024 and projects of the Fulbright mentor, Professor Peter Groffman. A shorter form of this presentation was communicated at the CARY Institute of Ecosystem Studies on the 13th of February 2025.
