THE USE OF DIGITAL EDUCATIONAL GAMES IN MATHEMATICS LEARNING: A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW

Abstract

This article has the general objective of evaluating the importance of digital educational games or gamification in the mathematics learning process, as well as exploring their main contributions and benefits in this context. Thus, a systematic literature review was produced, which culminated in the analysis of six works available in the Capes journal database. It was possible to observe, in the researched works, that digital educational games or gamification have the ability to motivate and engage students, stimulate creativity and collaboration, promote the development of mathematical skills and allow a more meaningful and autonomous learning. Furthermore, a review showed that these games can be used in different teaching contexts, from basic education to higher education, and that each level can benefit from different types of games and pedagogical strategies. Although some inconsistencies were found between studies, most articles emphasize the importance and benefits of digital educational games or gamification in mathematics learning. The results of the systematic review emphasize the need to invest more and more in the development and use of digital educational games in Mathematics Education and to carry out more research to assess their effectiveness and potential.
