
El estudio se centra en la kūra de Ilbīra, una división administrativa bajo dominio omeya durante los periodos emiral (756-929 d.C.) y califal (929-1031 d.C.), que abarcaba casi toda la actual provincia de Granada (España). Tras la desintegración del Califato, el territorio pasó a estar controlado por la dinastía Zirí, que trasladó la capital de Madīnat Ilbīra a Madīnat Ġarnāṭah (actual Granada). Este territorio constituye un espacio de gran interés para comprender la evolución de los espacios urbanos y su relación con los asentamientos rurales en los inicios de al-Andalus.
