Co-creation of Comprehensive Data Management Planning Guidance in Norway

Abstract

Academic library support services face a growing demand for data management planning support. Providing guidance is essential to help researchers establish good data management routines and to prevent them from feeling overwhelmed by demands or perceiving the writing of a DMP as a pure administrative burden. At the same time, it is challenging for support personnel to keep up to date with guidelines and guidance resources in a fast-paced field. To address both demands, the 1-year project ‘Data Management Plans: Support package for Norwegian higher education libraries’ (October 2023-2024) facilitated alignment of Data Management Plan (DMP) recommendations between the four largest Universities in Norway and developed resources for both researchers and support staff. The support package consists of three products: 1) a knowledge base for support staff including annotation of the Science Europe Practical Guide to the International Alignment of Research Data Management in the Norwegian context, 2) short texts for use in digital DMP tools that were implemented as discipline-agnostic knowledge model and connected questionnaires/templates in the DMP-tool Data Stewardship Wizard (DSW), 3) accompanying information resources for researchers and students. All generated text resources are maintained through an open contribution and maintenance process.
