சங்க மருவிய கால இலக்கியங்களில் பெண்களின் வாழ்வியல்: சிலப்பதிகாரம் / Women's Lives in the Literatures of the Sangam Era: Silappathikaram

Abstract

The period from 3 to 6 AD in the history of Tamil literature is the Sangam Era. Since the Sangams disappeared, it was called the Sangam Era and was also known as the Aranoor Period. Silappathikaram is one of the literatures that emerged during the Sangam Era. Silappathikaram is one of the five great epics written in Tamil. This book is also presented as a continuous poem with a patti. All three elements of literature, namely, literature, music, and drama, can be found in this epic. Epics have an independent protagonist and are composed with descriptions of the country, city, and nature and carry the lofty goals of virtue, material pleasure, and home. Generally, epics are composed with kings as the protagonists. But this poem is composed with Kovalan, the best of the people, and Kannagi, the goddess of chastity, as the protagonists. This is the uniqueness of this poem. Silappadikaram has been created to elevate women. It can be seen that during the post-Sanga period, women were excellent in domestic life and excelled in virtue. The things associated with women's lives are aspects of life. The aspects of women's lives such as domestic life, hospitality, chastity, childbearing, charity and asceticism can be seen in the Silappadikaram through Kannagi, Madhavi, shepherds' clan women and Kaundi Adi. The research problem is to identify how women's lives are depicted in the Silappadikaram that emerged during the post-Sanga period as part of the Aranoo period. The main objective is to highlight the aspects of women's lives in the Silappadikaram. This study is qualitative.
