geoSABINA: Species occurrences

Abstract

This dataset provides occurrence records of plant species found in peninsular Spain. The data is organized into four data collections (zip files), each focusing on a specific plant group or data source (trees occurrences, shrub occurrences, atlas of vascular plants, and atlas of bryophytes). The accompanying data_table_sp_occurrences.csv file includes the following metadata for all the data within each collection: category of data, data collection, description, spatial resolution, time period, and data path. CRS: WGS 84 / UTM Zone 30N (EPSG:32630) Data collections: Tree species: Occurrence records of the 81 tree species more commonly found in Spain. It contains two folders (global and regional) containing data at different precision. The global folder contains occurrence points at 1-km resolution in the entire European biomes retrieved from the global databases GBIF, BIEN, and EUForest. The regional folder contains occurrence records within peninsular Spain retrieved from the Third Spanish National Forest Inventory and resampled to 250-m resolution. The data are available in CSV tables. Each species has a file, named after the corresponding species' name (e.g., Quercus.ilex.csv), containing three columns: coordinate x, coordinate y, and source of the record. Shrub species: Occurrence records of the 101 shrub species more commonly found in Spain. Each of these zip files contain two folders (global and regional) containing data at different precision. The global folder contains occurrence points at 1 km resolution in the entire European biomes retrieved from the global databases GBIF, BIEN, and EUForest. The regional folder contains occurrence records within peninsular Spain retrieved d from the Spanish Forest Map at a 1 km resolution. The data are available in CSV tables. Each species has a file, named after the corresponding species' name (e.g., Quercus.ilex.csv), containing three columns: coordinate x, coordinate y, and source of the record. Atlas of vascular plants: Occurrence data for 6,456 vascular plant species and subspecies (v_plants_ atlas.zip) in Spain, available in 10 km UTM grid cells and provided in CSV files with three columns: ‘Taxon’ with genus, species and subspecies (if applicable) of each species, ‘UTM.cell’ with the identifier of the UTM grid cell where the taxon was recorded, ‘References’ with the reference number to the sources of occurrence data, and ‘Source’ with the DOI of the reference source article Ramos-Gutiérrez et al. (2021) https://doi.org/10.1111/geb.13363. References are detailed in the accompanying file v_plants_references_AFLIBER.csv. Atlas of bryophytes: Occurrence data for 1,252 bryophyte species in Spain, available in 10 km UTM grid cells and provided in CSV files with three columns: ‘Taxon’ with genus, species and subspecies (if applicable) of each species, ‘UTM.cell’ with the identifier of the UTM grid cell where the taxon was recorded, and ‘References’ with the reference number to the sources of occurrence data. References are detailed in the accompanying file bryophytes_references_ABRYIBER_v1.csv.
