Abstract Sports dentistry is a specialized dental care that is focused on preventing, diagnosing, and treating oral and maxillofacial injuries from athletic injury. Considering these factors, it acknowledges the unique oral health challenges that athletes face due to the physical demands of their sport and the interrelation between oral health and athletic performance and overall well-being. This review of the literature seeks to provide an overview of the current status of sports dentistry, concerning the prevalence of dental trauma, adequate preventive measures, the significance of oral health in sports performance, and the importance of dental professionals in ensuring proper athlete care.
