Abstract

La sinusitis crónica es una patología común en la práctica otorrinolaringológica, frecuentemente asociada a la hipertrofia de cornetes y desviación septal, especialmente en adultos mayores. Estadísticamente, se estima que la desviación septal afecta a aproximadamente el 80% de la población en algún grado, lo que aumenta el riesgo de obstrucción nasal crónica y de complicaciones como la sinusitis recurrente, particularmente en personas expuestas a traumatismos nasales o con rinitis crónica. Tanto la hipertrofia de cornetes como la desviación del tabique nasal contribuyen a una alteración significativa del flujo de aire y dificultan el drenaje adecuado de las secreciones, favoreciendo así la inflamación crónica de la mucosa nasal. En este contexto, se presenta el caso clínico de un paciente masculino de 63 años con sinusitis crónica asociada a hipertrofia de cornetes y desviación septal. Este caso resalta la estrecha relación entre estas condiciones y su impacto negativo en la calidad de vida del paciente, subrayando la importancia de un diagnóstico y tratamiento oportunos para aliviar los síntomas y prevenir complicaciones a largo plazo.
